Gabriel Tallent was born in New Mexico and raised on the Mendocino coast in California. After his graduation at Willamette University he guided youth trail crews in the backcountry of the Pacific Northwest.
His novel My Absolute Darling is a New York Times bestseller and tells the story of Turtle Alveston. At fourteen, she roams the woods along the northern California coast. Turtle has grown up isolated since the death of her mother, in the thrall of her tortured and charismatic father, Martin. When she meets Jacob, she comes in touch with another world and starts imagining to escape from her father.
