14.04.2019 - Anuna de Wever, Kyra Gantois
Anuna de Wever and Kyra Gantois, with their organized school strikes in Belgium, have become the faces of an anxious climate generation. In their book We are the climate (Wij zijn het klimaat), they reach out to all of us. On Sunday afternoon, April 14th, they will join us at BorderKitchen in Theater aan het Spui in The Hague.
It started out with just the two of them. At the kitchen table, Belgian teens Anuna and Kyra voiced their worries about the climate and decided: enough is enough. On the 10th of January, they organized a school strike against the current climate policy in a designated square. It turned out to be too small for the 3000 students who showed up. A week later, that number had grown to 12,500, and the next week 35,000.
Anuna and Kyra soon became the faces of a new political generation of millennials who refuse to be appeased by politicians’ empty promises. In We are the climate, these two young activists reach out to politicians and policymakers, to parents, grandparents and their peers alike. Time is running out!
At BorderKitchen, Anuna and Kyra will engage in a conversation with moderator Oscar Kocken and the audience. This event will be Dutch spoken.
